Notes From The Studio
A colorful studio morning
This year has started off with some fun momentum. I brought back my Love Bird series just in time for Valentine’s Day, and the Tuesday after, I opened the studio for a morning event with Hart Jewelry and the Spanish shoe brand Flabelus.
A typical morning in my working studio is quiet; everyone settles in, music playing, coffee brewing, and by 11 o’clock, it’s usually just time for lunch before heading back to painting. So it was refreshing to start the day with something different, a mix of artistic activity, conversation, and energy that filled the space in a completely new way.
Hart’s playful new enamel bezel collection—full of cheerful color—was styled out on our main area table, a few pairs of Flabelus shoes, which, by the way, are effortless, comfortable, and beautifully made. I also had the pleasure of meeting founder Beatriz, whose thoughtful approach to design you can truly feel in every pair.
Hart, the mastermind behind the event, wanted to kick off the year by exploring color and intention—what color means in our daily lives, and how it reflects our emotions. As an artist, I’m always tuned into color, but it was a lovely reminder of just how much meaning color can carry.

As long as I’ve been painting my Nest series, I’ve always started with three colors and let them guide me—following how they make me feel and what I want the work to express. For this event, my role was to help guests do the same: create their own “nest” using three colors that reflected either how they feel right now or what they hope to bring into the new year. I truly loved seeing what everyone chose, how they interpreted their palettes, and the beautiful, unexpected art that unfolded from it.
Finished the day with a wonderful dinner at The Dunlin, surrounded by women founders who each bring their own color and creativity to our community.

Loved reading this and especially how people created their own nest paintings. Beautiful and uplifting!
